The Identity Provider (IdP) of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences is used for authentication and authorization of students and employees of the university towards service providers, so-called service providers (SP), within the DFN-AAI. These are, for example, digital library content and central information systems for research, Teaching and studying such as electronic services from publishers for online research or Internet portals for downloading resources. The authentication and authorization infrastructure DFN-AAI is administered by the DFN-Verein (Association for the Promotion of a German Research Network).

The IdP of the FH Kiel is operated by the DFN-Verein on behalf of the FH Kiel and ensures the exchange of User information for members of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences and the service providers in the DFN-AAI.
